Since 2008, Spider Online have been working with myjobscotland (mjs) who are widely recognised as the UK’s best public sector jobs portal. All 32 Scottish Councils use the fully responsive Drupal website, all applications are online and, crucially, the percentage of advertised jobs filled via mjs has risen year-on-year from its launch seven years ago.


Spider Online was originally invited to design the front end, and partnering with Lumesse, we integrated their iGrasp technology into a user friendly interface. Technology has advanced significantly since then and so the site has been upgraded. Now integrating with Lumesse’s most current applicant tracking system, TalentLink, mjs website offers a seamless process for candidates, making jobs easier to find and the application process simpler and more efficient.


The design of an HR-led public sector website requires liaison with a User Intelligence Group (UIG) to agree every aspect of the process and design. The UIG emphasised functionality over aesthetics. Nonetheless, Spider Online conducted preliminary research, involving gaze plots/eye-tracking to ensure optimum layout/usability resulting in the website being easy to navigate and the forms simple and quick to complete.



The mjs project involved collaborating with multiple service providers, from marketing and SEO specialists to HR experts all working together to tight deadlines. Spider Online’s extensive experience in the HR and recruitment arena, plus our technical knowledge added significant value to the process and resulted in myjobscotland winning multiple awards. To date Spider Online’s trophy cabinet carries awards from the Herald Digital Business Awards, the DADI’s and UK Public Sector Digital Awards and we continue to have a successful working relationship with all involved with mjs. It is our ability to marry a practical, knowledge based understanding of the client (and the client’s customers) with solid, practical web solutions that is Spider’s Online’s greatest strength.
