myjobscotland award

Spider Online’s client myjobscotland awarded for being the most successful local government recruitment website in the UK.

The UK Public Sector Digital Awards kicked off in prestigious style, with a foreword speech by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, at London’s famous Guildhall on Thursday 19 January. The awards celebrate ICT in the public sector and recognise the achievements of both individuals and organisations.

Like many industries, the public sector has been through the mill as a result of the current economic climate; under considerable pressure to deliver increasing workloads with decreasing budgets. It will come as no surprise that Spider Online is delighted to congratulate the team at myjobscotland for winning ‘Best example of Shared Services in Practice.’

"On behalf of everyone at Spider Online, we are delighted for the myjobscotland team winning such a prestigious UK award. They are a great client to work for and the project has made a big difference to the recruitment sector in Scotland."

The shared services agenda is a critical element of the UK government’s national ICT policy. myjobscotland demonstrates best practice of shared services to deliver lower cost, increased ROI and enhanced productivity, ultimately better serving their citizens/clients.

COSLA’s Spokesperson for Human Resource Management, Councillor Michael Cook, said, “I am delighted that myjobscotland has been recognised in this way. Accolades don’t come any higher than winning this prestigious award. The way that councils recruit their workforce has been completely transformed. The benefits are not just financial, candidates get a much better service, councils get access to a wider pool of talent, and local government is increasingly seen as an employer of choice. This really is a win-win for everyone involved.”

myjobscotland saves the public purse an estimated £600 every 28 minutes, just on advertising costs. That’s over £17 million every year, making it the most successful local government recruitment website in the UK. By April 2011 all 32 Councils and all 8 Fire Services in Scotland were using the site for all their vacancies.

Councillor Cook added, “We have had councils and government departments from across the UK and indeed from Europe coming to Edinburgh to see how we have achieved this success. There is immense scope for other partners in the public sector, from NHS to Higher Education, the Civil Service to the Police, to make really substantial savings while providing an improved service.”
